It sure has been summer for a long time but I love the fall as it is a special time.
There is something about the harvest that is both rewarding, yet a little sad, as the
fields and gardens are being put to sleep for the winter. I do kind of like this
global warming as summer and fall last a little longer. I am curious however, to
see what winter will bring. Speaking of putting gardens to bed for the winter, the
City of Rexburg will be collecting fall clean-up refuse beginning October 19th.
Congratulations on the inauguration of President Clark Gilbert. This was a great
event. President Gilbert will make a great president. He is open, friendly and
loves Rexburg. We at City Hall are glad that he is here.
We met with BYU-Idaho this week to better coordinate traffic flows and patterns
for back to school next year. The university is so cooperative and helpful. For me,
it’s kind of fun to see the students returning, especially the new students; all excit-
ed with anticipation of their first year at school. The parents, with concern and a
little worry written upon their faces. It is a new beginning for both parties. Noth-
ing will ever be the same.
Nothing is ever the same. Our world is constantly changing and I believe at an
ever increasing rate. All attention is currently on the national elections over a year
away. We shouldn’t allow all of the hoopla to take away from a very important
election being held this year in our own backyard. I would hope that you will
learn all that you can about the candidates and their concerns and goals for
Rexburg. I will not be on the ballot. I’m quite sure that Lori and I will be anxious-
ly engaged in some part of the world. We, like the new students, are excited at the
prospect of change; yet, like the fall and changing season there is certain sadness
in leaving this beautiful community and its citizens. Nothing is ever the same. It
can be even better! We hope that you will make an informed decision this No-
vember election. Thanks to You All!
