It must be spring, I’m already sneezing and I can’t seem to get the sand and grit out of
my eyes after that weekend wind storm. I feel bad for the real estate agents. There was
a great deal of property exchanged and not a one of them received a commission for it.
I’m also hoping this letter will help me locate the owner of the anvil that blew into my
yard on the last Saturday in March. This spring however is one of the best we have ex-
perienced at our house. I hope it hasn’t been too hard on others. I do know, however,
that there were a few damaged roofs and some serious soil erosion.
I enjoy the rare opportunities to visit with those delightful citizens at our local Senior
Citizen Center. There is always lively chatter and even serious conversation. There is
also fierce competition in the bridge games. They have Bingo, too. I believe what I en-
joy, besides the polite conversation, are the delicious meals at a really reasonable price. I
would implore any of you, who are aware of a shut-in, please help them to attend. It
might make your day as well as that of the shut-in. Anyone is always welcome. You
might consider volunteering as well. Every time I go there I always come away feeling
better. Speaking of feeling better about things, I attended an awards ceremony at our
Rexburg Police Department where the officers involved in the shooting on January 24,
were honored for valor. I can think of none more worthy of these awards. I arrived at
the “scene” just minutes after the event and observed their demeanor and conduct. I
kept my mouth shut. It seems that one can learn so much more with a closed mouth. I
was indeed impressed! After the event, I was able to hear the recordings and see the
video. They were very concerned for the perpetrator. They repeatedly tried to get him
to put down his weapon. Only when he fired upon them did they return fire. They
stood their ground! They took fire! I am impressed and thankful for a great Chief of
Police, Shane Turman. I am thankful that none of our officers or our Madison County
Deputy was wounded. We can all be thankful.
Thanks to Dan Hanna who has served many years on Planning and Zoning. Thanks to
all of the many volunteers who serve and have served without much remuneration. Oh,
they get a turkey for Christmas, not much for all the valuable work that is done on be-
half of our community. They, too, stand and “take fire” in battle of public opinion in
efforts to make our community better. I want to also mention our City and County of-
ficials and staff who also “take fire” in their dedication to duty and the community. It is
not an easy thing! Thank You All!
