The Federal shutdown may have caught some un- awares, but it serves to remind us that we need to first look to our families, neighbors, and community to address and solve our problems. I am proud to be in a community where this is the case. As a city, we have placed ourselves in a very positive position thanks to you and your willingness to participate with us in governing. Our budget review has just been released and we are happy to say that we have figured out how to balance a budget. I am excited to report that Envision Madison, which kicked off in June, is con- tinuing to make progress. Your input in the forms of maps, emails, surveys, etc. have given Envision Madison insight into what you want to see in our community. The ideas expressed in the public workshops have given us a bet- ter understanding about what is important to us as a community. From your input, three additional areas of concern have been identified, what we can do better as a community to enhance our: Workforce/Economic Development, Recreation/Tourism, and improve communication between the Community and the University. Three taskforces have been formed from the public; which include private en- tities, citizens, and businesses. Together we are exploring how we as a commu- nity can work to enhance our community by addressing these concerns. I invite you to continue to participate in Envision Madison by going to the Envision Madison website, www.envisionmadsion.com, Facebook, and Twitter. Lastly, Fall Clean-up is here. Have your yard waste ready for curbside pickup, October 21st to November 18th. Richard S.
