Mayors Message:
Now is our chance!
I am writing this letter as an invitation to become involved with and in Envision Madi-
son.
We are currently in the process of celebrating the one hundredth birthday of Madison
County. We celebrate the vision of those who have strived to make Madison County
something special. They were a hardy and special people. They created the tabernacle
without the use of power tools in a years’ time—amazing. They dug canals, they cleared
land, and they built roads and laid out the plats and streets that would be Rexburg. They
did make this area special.
We have our chance to plan for the next one hundred years. We have all complained or
wondered about the lay-out of our city. How will we be able to get across town? How
will that new subdivision fit into the traffic mix? Our streets have gotten ever more
crowded. Where will it all fit in? Where will sewer and water lines go? Are they going to
be big enough? What about bridges, roads, parks, schools, recreational areas?
Instead of wondering- not sure we want to be on the path that someone else sets for us;
we as citizens of Madison County can shape the future by attending a number of ENVI-
SION MADISON workshops. Instead of being led down a path we’re not sure we want
to be on, let us take the proverbial Bull by the Horns and be a part of the process that
shapes our future. Meetings are already being held and planned. Here is a partial schedule:
June 13 – Kickoff Event, 7:00 pm, Madison High School Performing Arts Center
June 18 – Public Workshop, 7:00 pm, South Fork Elementary & Sugar Salem Jr. High
June 19 – Public Workshop, 7:00 pm, BYUI Taylor Chapel Multipurpose Room
June 20 – Public Workshop, 7:00 pm, Madison High Main Gym
For this process to work well, it is important that we have as many citizen planners as we
can. When they built the tabernacle the whole area came together. What an amazing
feat. Our task is not as demanding physically; however, it is of no less importance.
Where will our children live? Will there be jobs for them? Will they be able to have a
nice home? What is their future? Their future is tied to our actions. Their future is tied
to how well we plan. Please join us as we plan our future.

Friends and Neighbors,
Today, our community is growing and changing. Over the last decade Madison County has experienced unprece-
dented growth, which has brought opportunities and challenges that were not dreamed of even ten years ago.
These opportunities require us to ask some hard questions, questions that will affect the way our area develops over
the next 50 years.
Envision Madison is a once in a generation opportunity to explore growth related issues and think together about
what Madison County should look like in the future. The process reflects the values of the public, the voice of the
public, and the vision of the public. Broad public participation in both creating and implementing the vision is the
key to this process.
As the decisions made today affect our neighbors, the decisions made also affect future generations. We invite you
to become part of the process. Please see the calendar of events for Envision Madison nearby. Please visit
www.envisionmadison.com for more information, and to keep updated on our progress.
Sincerely,
The Envision Madison Executive Board:
