HomeMy WebLinkAboutNewsletter City_September 2011Hello Everyone
I want to write this letter to give thanks and a lot of praise to our city workers.
Sometimes they must feel like it is a thankless job. I will give you some exam-
ples. The sanitation crews who pick up our garbage, what a never ending job it
is. Just as soon as it is picked up and hauled away, the bins are filled again. Yet
someone must do it. How about our wastewater treatment people? They are un-
sung heroes for sure. We know what they have to deal with everyday. It is a
risky job, so much so that they receive routine immunization. Some people are
afraid to shake their hands. Yet someone must do it. How about our fire and
police departments? They see the worst of things. They work in situations that
are often scary. They see tragedy. Sometimes they have to harden their hearts.
They are not always appreciated. Yet someone must do it. How about our water
department and road crews, working in the hot sun standing on the hot pave-
ment, and then alternating to sub zero weather as they try to keep the water
lines open and the streets safe. They are not always appreciated. Yet someone
must do it. How about the front desk at City Hall, those girls and the people in
the financial and billing departments hear a lot of complaints and are at times
even abused verbally. They keep smiling and are cheerful through it all. It is a
tough job. Yet someone has to do it. Bob Yeatman in recreation and Greg
McInnes in parks work all sorts of hours, day and night to give us pretty parks
and great recreation. Their hours are long and the thanks do not come often
enough. Yet someone has to do it.
To all of the city crews, let me express my heartfelt thanks. It has been an
honor to work with you as your Mayor and as your friend.

Community Update
WERE YOU SELECTED?
This September, 600 households received a survey from the Department of Economic De-
velopment. If you’ve been selected, please take a moment to fill out your responses and re-
turn the form with your utility bill. Your help is greatly appreciated.
The Department of Economic Development conducted its first economic survey of the City
of Rexburg just last year. From it we gained valuable insight into consumer habits and have
already used the information in multiple economic development projects. We hope to add to
that knowledge each year and continue to grow business in Rexburg.
If you have been selected, we have included a pre-stamped envelope with the survey, which
you are welcome to return both the survey and your utility bill in.
Thanks,
Department of Economic Development

October 3– November 4th, 2011. Our

bundled. Set them out on your curb.
