HomeMy WebLinkAboutNewsletter City_May 2011Mayor’s Message: We at City Hall appreciate your patience with the city streets. The last two years have been hard on our streets. This year has been especially bad. When winter is mild, as it is this year, more damage occurs. The constant freeze-thaw cycle causes potholes to form and the wet weather has kept us from perform- ing as much repair work as we would normally do. But spring is just around the corner. The street crews are out and for the most part things are much better. Permanent repairs are soon coming. The road base in some areas needs to become more stable for lasting repairs. The Wastewater Treatment Facility is working better than expected with the new addition. We now enjoy a substantial reduction in the cost of power as a large horsepower electric motor is no longer needed. The Rexburg Aquatic Center is moving along rapidly. Johnny Watson of JRW and Associates is doing a great job and is taking advantage of every break in the weather. It is hard to say if we can meet the projected opening; it all de- pends upon the weather. I tour the facility a number of times each week and am amazed at how well the work is progressing. You might wonder what I like the best about this job. Well, it feels good to be able to serve others and to meet with people and to help resolve problems and issues that crop up. Some of the most enjoyable things I had never even thought about. Before I became Mayor I did not know that the Mayor per- formed weddings. I did three this past week. What an enjoyable thing it is to see young people starting out. One couple I recently married was in their sev- enties. Another fun thing I get to do is tours of city hall. Just this morning I gave two tours. They were all third graders; they were delightful. I do enjoy being your Mayor. I pray that I will never offend anyone. My door is always open. Rexburg is a wonderful city. It will continue to grow and to prosper. Many people are impressed with what we have. I am thankful to live here and that is why I serve.
