SUBJECT: Comprehensive Plan Map Amendment Application

APPLICANT: City of Rexburg
PURPOSE: Requesting to amend the Comprehensive Plan Map - to change property
from Low-Moderate Density Residential and Neighborhood
Commercial/Mixed Use to Medium to High Density Residential for the
specified properties.
PARCEL SIZE: Approximately 10 acres.
PROPERTY LOCATION: The block between 2nd South and 3rd South and 1st East and 2nd East.
AUTHORITY § 6.13c “Council may adopt or reject an amendment to the Comprehensive
Plan.”
REQUEST
Applicant is requesting a land use map designation change from Low-Moderate Density Residential and
Neighborhood Commercial/Mixed Use to Medium to High Density Residential for the specified property.
RECOMMENDATION
The block being considered for a comp plan change is adjacent to the BYUI campus. There is existing High
Density Dormitory on the west side of the requested area change and there has been large dormitory projects
completed directly to the north and on the block to the northeast on 2nd East. Staff feels that Medium to High
Density Residential is a good use for this area. The timing of actual zone changes are not being considered with
this request.
Staff recommends that this Comprehensive Map change be considered. The Planning and Zoning Commission
should take testimony in the public hearing to determine if this change to the comprehensive plan map will be in
the best interest of the community and make recommendation to the City Council.
