Why Transit funding Matters…
The Facts, per APTA (2016)
In 2016, Americans took more than 10.4 billion trips on public transportation.
People board transit 35 million times each weekday.
Since 1995, public transportation ridership increased by 34%—a growth rate higher than the 21% increase in U.S. population and higher than the 33% growth in the use of the nation’s highways
over the same period.

What Are We Working On?
15
1) TRPTA is working on a route interlining project per our Short Range Transit Plan to enhance coverage in Idaho Falls and beyond. The plan also suggests a Downtown Circular (Tolley
Car).
2) TRPTA is still looking to secured consistent local match to provide employee medical benefits to attract applicants and maintain current staff.
4) TRPTA is working on coordination with public and private transportation providers in the upcoming fiscal year. We received a 5310 grant this year to coordinate service for disabled
vets and seniors for Fiscal Year 18.
5) TRPTA is working with local businesses to secure funding for fleet replacement over the next 5 years. Currently, all of TRPTA’s buses are out of useful life, which has increased
maintenance costs greatly.
6) Rebranding is another priority listed in the Short Range Transit Plan. A change in the type and style of TRPTA’s buses along with buying vans, shelters, benches, and adding bus
signs for our stops, and changing transfer locations can help accomplish this.
16
TRPTA is moving forward with our Short Range Transit Plan which was adopted by our board October 2017
TRPTA is also working on expanding its footprint by coordinating with other transit providers to increase the mobility of our customers. (i.e. working on a service to get our disabled
vets to the Pocatello VA)
