NYC MEA 258-93-E Patents US Patent No. 7,841,418 Other Patents Pending DH56 FP ReccesedDH56 DH56 F2 Recessed Products Description The Model DH56 family of sprinklers are quick response extended coverage sidewall sprinklers for use in light hazard applications. The Model DH56 with SWC cover plate is a concealed sprinkler that uses Reliable’s push on/ thread off sidewall cover. This sprinkler has the cup fac- tory mounted and is shipped with a protective cap that protects the 3mm frangible glass bulb during shipping and post installation finishing operations. The DH56 can be combined in the field with the FP or F2 Escutcheon to make a recessed sprinkler. The SWC cover plate, FP and F2 recessed escutcheons have ½” adjustment. The SWC cover plate is attached with 135-degree solder. In the event of a fire the rising ambient temperature melts the solder and the cover plate is ejected away by springs exposing the 3mm frangible glass bulb. The use of a 3mm bulb allows quick response which enables the sprinkler to apply water to a fire sooner than standard response sprin- klers of the same temperature rating. Application The Model DH56 is a horizontal sidewall sprinkler intended for installation in light hazard occupancies in accordance with NFPA 13. These sprinklers are designed to provide fire pro- tection in long and narrow spaces such as hallways, corri- dors, decks and rooms up to 28 feet (8,5m) wide and 10 feet (3m) long. They are rated for 250 psi (17,2 bar) and can be mounted between 4 and 12 inches (102 and 305mm) down from the ceiling. DH56 Concealed with SWC coverplate 2. Maintenance Model DH56 should be inspected and the sprinkler main- tained in accordance with NFPA 25. Do not clean sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia or any other cleaning fluids. Remove dust by using a soft brush or gentle vacuuming. Re- move any sprinkler/cover assembly, which has been painted (other than factory applied) or damaged in any way. A stock of spare sprinklers should be maintained to allow quick re- placement of damaged or operated sprinklers. Prior to instal- lation, sprinklers should be maintained in their original cartons and packaging until used to minimize the potential for dam- age to sprinklers that would cause improper operation or non- operation. Installation DH56 Recessed, FP Escutcheon To install the DH56 with the FP Escutcheon as a re- cessed sprinkler cut a 2 5/8” diameter hole in the wall as shown in Figure1. Remove temporarily the plastic protec- tive cap, then use the GFR2 wrench to tighten the sprin- kler until secured in the sprinkler fitting. NOTE: The GFR2 wrench has a notch in it to accommodate the deflector top. This wrench can only be inserted one way. Care must be taken not to damage the deflector during tightening. Apply a PTFE based sealant to the sprinkler threads be- fore installing in the fitting. When inserting or removing the wrench from the sprinkler cup, care must be taken to pre- vent damage to the sprinkler. Wrench only on the square boss. DO NOT WRENCH ON ANY OTHER PART OF THE SPRINKLER. It is recommended that the sprinkler be pro- tected during plastering and painting operations by rein- stalling the protective cap P/N 6802710003. Installation is completed by removing the protective cap and inserting the push-on escutcheon. Turn clockwise to adjust the es- cutcheon against the wall. DH56 Recessed, F2 Escutcheon To install the DH56 with the F2 Escutcheon as a re- cessed sprinkler cut a 2 ¼” diameter hole in the wall as shown in Figure 2. Thread the DH80 into the collar hand tight. Apply a PTFE based sealant to the sprinkler threads and install in the fitting. Wrench only on the square boss. NOTE: The GFR2 wrench has a notch in it to accommo- date the deflector top. This wrench can only be inserted one way. When inserting or removing the wrench from the sprinkler cup care must be taken to prevent damage to the sprinkler. DO NOT WRENCH ON ANY OTHER PART OF THE SPRINKLER. It is recommended that the sprinkler be protected during plastering and painting operations by using the protective cap P/N 6999991009. These must be ordered separately. Installation is completed by removing the protective cap and inserting the F2 Escutcheon over the collar. DH56 with SWC Cover Plate Concealed To install the sprinkler, cut a 2 5/8” diameter hole into the wall as shown in Figure1. A PTFE based thread sealant should be applied to the sprinkler threads only. Remove the protective cap (P/N 6802710003) and then position the GFR2 wrench into the sprinkler/cup assembly until the wrench engages the flats of the square boss. Then tighten the sprinkler into the pipe fitting. When inserting or removing the wrench from the sprinkler/cup assembly, care should be taken to prevent damage to the sprin- kler. DO NOT WRENCH ON ANY OTHER PART OF THE SPRINKLER. The protective caps should be reinstalled for protection during plastering and painting. Remove caps only when covers are being installed. The cover assembly is then pushed onto the cup. Cover assemblies provide ½” (13mm) of adjustment. Final adjustment is made by turning the cover clockwise until the skirt flange makes full contact with the wall surface. Cover removal requires turning in the counter- clockwise direction. Concealed cover/cup assemblies are listed only for use with specific sprinklers. The use of any other concealed cover/cup assembly with the Model DH56 Horizontal Side- wall Sprinkler or the use of the concealed cover assembly on any sprinkler with which it is not specifically listed will void all guarantees, warranties, listings and approvals. Note: DH56 and DH56 Recessed Sprinklers have orange bulb protectors to minimize bulb damage during shipping, handling, and installation. REMOVE THIS PROTECTION AT THE TIME THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM IS PLACED IN SERVICE FOR FIRE PROTECTION. Removal of the protec- tors before this time may leave the bulb vulnerable to dam- age. RASCO wrenches are designed to install sprinklers when covers are in place. REMOVE PROTECTORS BY UNDOING THE CLASP BY HAND. DO NOT USE TOOLS TO REMOVE THE PROTECTORS. 3. Improper handling and installation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo-nents and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. General Description TYCO Series EC-11 and EC-14 Extended Coverage Upright and Pendent Sprinklers are decorative glass-bulb sprinklers designed for use in light or ordinary hazard occu-pancies. They are intended for use in automatic sprinkler systems designed in accordance with standard installa-tion rules (e.g., NFPA 13) for a maximum coverage area of 400 ft2 (37,2 m2), as compared to the maximum coverage area of 130 ft2 (12,1 m2) for standard coverage sprinklers used in ordinary hazard occupancies or 225 ft2 (20,6 m2) for standard coverage sprinklers used in light hazard occupancies. Series EC-11 and EC-14 Sprinklers feature a UL and C-UL Listing that permits their use with unobstructed or non-combustible obstructed ceiling construction as defined and permitted by NFPA 13, as well as a specific appli-cation listing for use under concrete tees. Series EC-11 and EC-14 Extended Coverage Sprinklers have been fire tested to compare their performance to that of standard coverage spray sprin-klers. These tests have shown that the protection provided is equal to or more effective than standard coverage spray sprinklers. Corrosion-resistant coatings, where applicable, help extend the life of copper alloy sprinklers beyond that which occurs when exposed to corrosive atmospheres. Although corro-sion-resistant coated sprinklers passed standard corrosion tests of the appli-cable approval agencies, this testing is not representative of all possible corrosive atmospheres. Consequently, it is recommended that the end user be consulted with respect to the suitability of these corrosion-resistant coatings for any given corrosive environment. The effects of ambient temperature, concentration of chemicals, and gas/chemical velocity should be consid-ered, along with the corrosive nature of the chemical to which the sprinklers will be exposed. NOTICE Series EC-11 and EC-14 Extended Coverage Sprinklers described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Association, in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for main-taining their fire protection system and devices in proper operating condition. General InstructionsDo not install any bulb-type sprinkler if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air bubble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch (1,6 mm) for the 135°F (57°C) to 3/32 inch (2,4 mm) for the 286°F (141°C) temperature ratings. A leak-tight 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained by applying a minimum-to-maximum torque of 10 to 20 ft.-lbs. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). Higher levels of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet with consequent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to compensate for insufficient adjustment in an Escutcheon Plate by under or over-tightening the Sprinkler. Re-adjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. Step 1. Install the sprinkler with the deflector parallel to the mounting surface. Install pendent sprinklers in the pendent position; install upright sprin-klers in the upright position. Step 2. After installing the Style 30, 40, or 60 mounting plate (or other applicable escutcheon) over the sprinkler pipe threads and with pipe-thread sealant applied to the pipe threads, hand-tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 3. For upright or pendent sprin-klers wrench-tighten using only the MOUNTING SURFACE FACE OF SPRINKLER FITTING 2-1/4" DIA. Apply the wrench recess of the appli-cable sprinkler wrench (Figure 5 and 6) to the sprinkler wrench flats (Figure 1). Care and Maintenance TYCO Series EC-11 and EC-14 Sprinklers must be maintained and serviced in accordance with this section. Before closing a fire protection system main control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it controls, obtain permission to shut down the affected fire protection systems from the proper authorities and notify all personnel who may be affected by this action. Sprinklers which are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated, or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Modified sprinklers must be replaced. Sprinklers that have been exposed to corrosive products of combustion, but have not operated, should be replaced if they cannot be completely cleaned by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth or by brushing it with a soft bristle brush. Care must be exercised to avoid damage to the sprinklers before, during, and after installation. Sprinklers damaged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be replaced. Also, replace any sprinkler that has a cracked bulb or that has lost liquid from its bulb. (Ref. Installation Section.) Frequent visual inspections are recom-mended to be initially performed for corrosion resistant coated sprin-klers, after the installation has been completed, to verify the integrity of the corrosion resistant coating. Thereafter, annual inspections per NFPA 25 should suffice; however, instead of inspecting from the floor level, a random sampling of close-up visual inspections should be made, so as to better determine the exact sprinkler condition and the long term integrity of the corrosion resistant coating, as it may be affected by the corrosive conditions present. The owner is responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and devices in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards recognized by the Approval agency (e.g., NFPA 25), in addition to the standards of any authorities having jurisdiction. Contact the installing contractor or product manufacturer with any questions. Automatic sprinkler systems are recom-mended to be inspected, tested, and maintained by a qualified Inspection Service in accordance with local requirements and/or national codes. The Globe Quick Response GL Series Dry Type Pendent Sprinkler utilizes a 3mm frangible glass ampule as the thermosensitive element. This provides sprinkler operation approximately six times faster than ordinary sprinklers. At the ampule's rated temperature, the sprinkler opens releasing the bulb seat, causing the inner tube assembly to move, allowing the spring assembly to pivot alongside the inner tube. At this time, water fl ows through the sprinkler and is distributed by the defl ector in an approved discharge pattern. It can be installed wherever standard spray sprinklers are specifi ed but offers the additional feature of greatly increased safety to life. Quick Response Sprinklers should be used advisedly and under the direction of approving authorities having jurisdiction. The heart of Globe's Model GL Series sprinkler proven actuating assembly is a hermetically sealed frangible glass ampule that contains a precisely measured amount of fl uid. When heat is absorbed, the liquid within the bulb expands increasing the internal pressure. At the prescribed temperature the internal pressure within the ampule exceeds the strength of the glass causing the glass to shatter. This results in water discharge which is distributed in an approved pattern. SLEEVE & SKIRTSURFACEMOUNT CLASSIFICATION AVAILABLE SPRINKLER TEMPERATURES BULB COLOR N.F.P.A. Bulletin 056 Page 8 of 24 December 2016 www.reliablesprinkler.com Application Reliable Attic Sprinklers are cULus Specific Application sprinklers intended for installation in accordance with this Bulletin and NFPA 13. The sprinklers are classified as Special Sprinklers by NFPA 13. The sprinklers are intended for installation within combus- tible or noncombustible roof structures, including those with wood joists or trusses. Coverage area and spacing requirements for each sprin- kler are provided on the individual sprinkler data sheets in this Bulletin. Example sprinkler layouts are illustrated in Figures 7 through 21. Design criteria for Reliable Attic Sprinklers must be in accordance with Table H based on the minimum flows and pressures for each sprinkler in Ta- bles B through G. Provide additional sprinklers beyond obstructions where required by Figure 22. For example, hydraulic calculations for a sprinkler system using DD Series sprinklers at the ridge with Model GP56 sprinklers at the eave must include the hydraulically most remote 5 DD Series sprinklers plus 2 Model GP56 sprin- klers for a wet pipe sprinkler system or 7 DD Series sprin- klers plus 2 Model GP56 sprinklers for a dry pipe sprinkler system. Prior to installation, sprinklers should remain in the original cartons and packaging until used. This will minimize the potential for damage to sprinklers that could cause im- proper operation or non-operation. Do not clean sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia liquid or any other cleaning fluids. Remove dust by gentle vacuuming without touching the sprinkler. Replace any sprinkler which has been painted (other than factory applied). Replace any sprinkler which has been damaged. A stock of spare sprinklers should be main- tained to allow quick replacement of damaged or operated sprinklers. Failure to properly maintain sprinklers may result in inad- vertent operation or non-operation during a fire event. Improper handling and installation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo-nents and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. Worldwide Contacts www.tyco-fire.com General Description The TYCO Series TY-L, 5.6 and 8.0 K-factor, Upright, Pendent, and Recessed Pendent Sprinklers described in this data sheet are stan-dard response, standard coverage, solder type spray sprinklers designed for use in light, ordinary, and extra hazard, commercial occupancies such as banks, hotels, shopping malls, fac-tories, refineries, chemical plants, etc. The recessed version of the Series TY-L Pendent Sprinkler, where appli-cable, is intended for use in areas with a finished ceiling. It uses a two-piece Style 20 (1/2 inch NPT) or Style 30 (3/4 inch NPT) Recessed Escutcheon. The Recessed Escutcheon provides 1/4 in. (6,4 mm) of recessed adjustment or up to 1/2 in. (12,7 mm) of total adjustment from the flush pendent position. The adjustment provided by the Recessed Escutcheon reduces the accuracy to which the fixed pipe drops to the sprin-klers must be cut. Corrosion resistant coatings, where applicable, are utilized to extend the life of copper alloy sprinklers beyond that which would otherwise be obtained when exposed to corrosive atmo-spheres. Although corrosion resistant coated sprinklers have passed the standard corrosion tests of the appli-cable approval agencies, the testing is not representative of all possible cor-rosive atmospheres. Consequently, it is recommended that the end user be consulted with respect to the suit-ability of these coatings for any given corrosive environment. The effects of ambient temperature, concentration of chemicals, and gas/chemical velocity, should be considered, as a minimum, along with the corrosive nature of the chemical to which the sprinklers will be exposed. An intermediate level version of the Series TY-L Pendent Sprinkler can be obtained by utilizing the Series TY-L Pendent Sprinkler in combination with the Model S Shield. NOTICE The TYCO Series TY-L, 5.6 and 8.0 K-factor, Upright and Pendent Sprin-klers described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Association, in addition to the standards of any other authori-ties having jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for main-taining their fire protection system and devices in proper operating con-dition. Contact the installing contrac-tor or product manufacturer with any questions. Design Criteria The TYCO Series TY-L, 5.6 and 8.0 K-factor, Upright, Pendent, and Recessed Pendent Sprinklers are intended for fire protection systems designed in accordance with the stan-dard installation rules recognized by the applicable Listing or Approval agency (e.g., UL Listing is based on the require-ments of NFPA 13, and FM Approval is based on the requirements of FM’s Loss Prevention Data Sheets). Only the Style 20 or 30 Recessed Escutch-eon, as applicable, are to be used for recessed pendent installations. Installation The TYCO Series TY-L, 5.6 and 8.0 K-factor, Upright, Pendent, and Recessed Pendent Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with this section: A leak tight 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a torque of 7 to 14 ft.-lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). A leak tight 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a torque of 10 to 20 ft.-lbs. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). Higher levels of torque may distort the sprinkler inlet and cause leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to make-up for insuf-ficient adjustment in the escutcheon plate by under- or over-tightening the sprinkler. Readjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. Series TY-L Pendent and Upright Sprinkler InstallationThe Series TY-L Pendent and Upright Sprinklers must be installed in accor-dance with this section. Pendent sprinklers are to be installed in the pendent position, and upright sprinklers are to be installed in the upright position. Step 1. With pipe thread sealant applied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 2. Tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting using only the W-Type 9 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 7), except that an 8 or 10 inch adjust-able Crescent wrench is to be used for wax coated sprinklers. With refer-ence to Figures 1, 2, and 3, the W-Type 9 Sprinkler Wrench is to be applied to the wrench area, or as applicable, the adjustable Crescent wrench is to be applied to the wrenching flanges. When installing wax coated sprinklers with the adjustable Crescent wrench, additional care needs to be exercised to prevent damage to the wax coating on the sprinkler wrench flats or frame arms and, consequently, exposure of bare metal to the corrosive environ-ment. The jaws of the wrench should be opened sufficiently wide to pass over the wrench flats without damaging the wax coating. Before wrench tightening the sprinkler, the jaws of the wrench are to be adjusted to just contact the sprin-kler wrench flats. After wrench tight-ening the sprinkler, loosen the wrench jaws before removing the wrench. *** *** * UPRIGHT PENDENT CROSS SECTIONRECESSED PENDENT 2-5/8"(66,7 mm) 7/16"(11,1 mm)NOMINALMAKE-IN 2-5/8"(66,7 mm) 2" (50,8 mm) WRENCHFLANGES ESCUTCHEONPLATE SEATINGSURFACE 2-7/8" (73,0 mm) DIA. The wax coating on the wrench flats can be retouched by gently applying a heated 1/8 in. diam-eter steel rod to the areas of wax that have been damaged, to smooth it back over areas where bare metal is exposed. NOTICE Only retouching of the wax coating applied to the wrench flats and frame arms is permitted, and the retouching is to be performed only at the time of the initial sprinkler installation. The steel rod should be heated only to the point at which it can begin to melt the wax, and appropriate precau-tions need to be taken, when handling the heated rod, in order to prevent the installer from being burned. If attempts to retouch the wax coating with complete coverage are unsuc-cessful, additional wax can be ordered in the form of a wax stick (the end of which is color coded). Only the correct color coded wax is to be used, and retouching of wrench flats and frame arms is only permitted at the time of initial sprinkler installation. With the steel rod heated as previously described, touch the rod to the area requiring additional wax with the rod angled downward, and then touch the wax stick to the rod approximately one-half inch away from the area requiring retouching. The wax will melt and run down onto the sprinkler. Series TY-L Recessed Pendent Sprinklers InstallationThe Series TY-L Recessed Pendent Sprinklers must be installed in accor-dance with this section. Step A. After installing the Style 20 or 30 Mounting Plate, as applicable, over the sprinkler threads and with pipe thread sealant applied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step B. Tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting using only the W-Type 10 Recessed Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 8). With reference to Figure 1, 2, or 3, the W-Type 10 Recessed Sprinkler Wrench is to be applied to the sprinkler wrenching flanges. Step C. After the ceiling has been installed or the finish coat has been applied, slide on the Style 20 or 30 Closure over the Series TY-L Sprin-kler and push the Closure over the Mounting Plate until its flange comes in contact with the ceiling. Improper handling and installation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its compo-nents and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. General Description TYCO Series TY-FRL 5.6K Horizon-tal Sidewall Sprinklers (HSW), Quick Response, Standard Coverage are sol-der-type spray sprinklers designed for use in light and ordinary hazard com-mercial occupancies such as banks, hotels, shopping malls, offices, etc. They are designed for installation along a wall or the side of a beam and just beneath a smooth ceiling. Horizontal sidewall sprinklers are commonly used instead of pendent or upright sprin-klers due to aesthetics or building con-struction considerations, where piping across the ceiling is not desirable. NOTICE The Series TY-FRL Sprinklers described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document, as well as with the applica-ble standards of the National Fire Pro-tection Association (NFPA), in addition to the standards of any other authori-ties having jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for main-taining their fire protection system and devices in proper operating con-dition. When the rated temperature is reached, the solder melts and the two link halves separate, allowing the sprin-kler to operate. Design Criteria TYCO Series TY-FRL 5.6K HSW Sprin-klers, Quick Response, Standard Coverage are intended for fire pro-tection systems designed in accor-dance with the standard installation rules recognized by the applicable listing or approval agency (e.g., UL Listing is based on NFPA 13 require-ments); however, the minimum dis-tance between sprinklers to prevent cold soldering is 8 feet (2,4 m). The Series TY-FRL HSW Sprinklers must be installed with a deflector-to-ceiling distance of 4 to 6 inches (100 to 150 mm). To meet this require-ment the centerline of the sprinkler waterway must be located 4-5/16 to 6-5/16 inches (110 to 160 mm) below the ceiling. Installation of the Series TY-FRL HSW Sprinklers in recessed escutcheons will void all manufac-turer’s warranties, as well as possibly void the sprinkler’s approvals and/or listings. TFP140 Page 2 of 4 Installation TYCO Series TY-FRL 5.6K HSW Sprin-klers, Quick Response, Standard Cov-erage must be installed in accordance with this section. General InstructionsA leak-tight 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained with a torque of 7 to 14 lbs-ft. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). A maximum of 21 lbs-ft. (28,5 Nm) of torque may be used to install sprin-klers with 1/2 NPT connections. Higher levels of torque may distort the sprin-kler inlet and cause leakage or impair-ment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to make-up for insuf-ficient adjustment in the escutcheon plate by under- or over-tightening the sprinkler. Readjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. Horizontal Sidewall SprinklersNote: The Series TY-FRL HSW Sprin-klers must be installed with their cen-terline of waterway parallel to the ceiling and perpendicular to the back wall surface. The word “TOP” on the deflector must face upwards toward the ceiling. Step 1. After installing an escutcheon (as applicable) over the sprinkler pipe threads and with pipe thread sealant applied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 2. Tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting using only the W-Type 9 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 2).
