HomeMy WebLinkAboutWATER TEST INTERPRETATION - 16-00628 - Sawtelle Apts - 18 Plex #1 Interpretation of Common Test Results Total Coliform  Excellent: “A,” or an “absent” test result, meaning there is no Total Coliform in the water sample.  Objectionable: “P,” or a “present” test result, meaning that Total Coliform is present in the water sample. According to the EPA, a result of “present” for Total Coliform is considered a health concern as it may indicate the presence of other harmful contaminants in the water. E. coli:  Excellent: “A,” or an “absent” test result, meaning there is no E. coli in the water sample.  Objectionable: “P,” or a “present” test result, meaning that E. coli is present in the water. According to the EPA a result of “present” for E. coli is considered a major health concern and the water should be treated immediately. Related Problems:  Total Coliform Health Concerns: Total Coliform is not a health threat in itself; it is used to indicate whether other potentially harmful bacteria may be present.  Total Coliform - Sources of Contamination: Coliforms are naturally present in the environment; as well as feces.  E. coli Health Concerns: The presence of E. coli indicates fecal contamination of water and can be a major health threat. E. coli can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. This pathogen may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, and people with severely compromised immune systems.  E. coli - Sources of Contamination: E. coli is present in human and animal fecal waste.
