It could not be determined if there was a beam between the trusses and the soffit. The trusses had about a 6' overhang on both front and back. It appeared that the front overhand had settled a little from the exterior of the house to the facia. In the back there were 3"x8" joist supporting the deck material. They were attacked to (2) 2"X 12" nailed together, not joist hangers on the outside plane. At the house the plans showed them attached to the rim joist. Part of his question was whether the trusses were designed to be cantileved or if they was held up by a beam, that one could not see because of the plywood soffit, at the outside spot where the truss would ordinarily set on the exterior wall. I told him that he could probably see the answers to those questions by looking through the access hole. He said he would investigate. All these questions stemmed on whether he could remove two of the 2X12's in one location, that had twisted on him due to weathering and age and how much he would have to support to do so. Answer to be determined by what he finds in the attic. Inspector Comments:
