Plan Solar Eclipse public events for August 21, 2017 “For the first time since 1979, a total solar eclipse will be visible in the Lower 48 United States and Idaho will be one of the best states to view it. Known as the “Great American Eclipse” on Aug. 21, the alignment of earth, moon and sun will carry the moon’s shadow from the Pacific to the Atlantic Coasts. It will pass through Idaho on a line from Weiser to Rexburg. Those not along the 60-mile-wide shadow path can view a partial solar eclipse, but will miss the sun’s transformation into a black circle, ringed by a pearly outer atmosphere.
