Interesting that Leslie’s van service has already proved unprofitable
for her. This is one reason why I believe that Charlie Dickson
recommended that a thorough study of the demand for fixed-route service
inside Rexburg be made prior to system launch. Chances are that some
form of subsidy will be needed to get a system off the ground, and
marketing a new system properly will be key.
I suspect that the Linx Co-op could be approached as the official
applicant for the long-term technical assistance grant since the City of
Rexburg is a Co-op member. The Co-op was the successful applicant for
CTAA’s short-term technical assistance grant that brought Charlie
Dickson out to Idaho the first time. You would need to contact Linx
President Arthur Kull at 680-0680 or akull@kullfoods.com to ascertain
their interest.
Otherwise, any private or nonprofit entity would be eligible to apply on
the city’s behalf, such as SLE, TRPTA or your own economic development
or chamber organizations.
I also will ask Tom Cluff to what extent I can assist with preparing the
application given this is part of HUD grant implementation. Jan

Hi Jan,
I talked to Leslie Church about being an applicant for the grant;
however, she said the students are hard to
get on board with the service due to their budgets. She has sold the van
and does some evening transportation
for them one or two at a time. It is not profitable for her.
I don’t know where this will go; however, a private carrier like Salt
Lake Express will be a better option.
Thanks,
Blair
