It would be a lot better to be able to leave the current drawings because of the use of space beneath the stairs and because of the lack of space in the entry way. From what 1 gathered these have been classified as individual, private homes not apartment dwellings. I've included a copy of the section from the 1997 Uniform Building Code on Rise and run and what I've gathered from this if we are a single family (private stairway) with an occupant load of less than 10 then the runs must be a minimum of 9 ", which we are. Changing the runs to 10" would cause the front entry-way in each unit to lose an additional 41/2". With the front door and entry door both being 3 0 then we loose an already smaller entry because we are using 2x6 outside walls instead of 2x4 outside walls. Making the entry only about 6'. This change would just make a better and nicer living space for the occupants. Please let me know.
