This step would enable our group to pursue rezoning of the subject property for the purpose of building and leasing professional office space. Question 7 A mixed use designation for the subject property would be congruent with the adjacent zoning and current uses bordering both sides of Professional Plaza. The comprehensive plan re- designation would make way for working with Planning and Zoning and the City Council toward creation of new, quality professional office space to meet growing needs and to further strengthen downtown Rexburg as a destination. Questions 8B & 8C The Comprehensive Plan identifies a number of community needs that would improve the vitality of the City and surrounding areas. Those that are most applicable to this application are as follows: 1) Encourage compact development to retain a convenient city. 2) Undertake infill. Adaptive re -use and historic preservation. 3) Stimulate and revitalize downtown Rexburg Changing the comprehensive plan to allow for rezoning and eventual redevelopment of the area between Professional Plaza and 2 nd East fits nicely with the direction stated in the 2020 Comprehensive Vision Plan. It would encourage revitalization of the area that directly links to the commercial downtown district, creating an appropriate transition from the commercial business district and residential neighborhoods to the east of Professional Plaza. He felt the neighbors walked away from the meeting the other night thinking it was the end of the public hearing. He was unsure if all the neighbors had been notified of the meeting here tonight; that this was going to come again for a change. They were aware of the proposed change and they were against turning homes into apartments in their neighborhood. If he votes nay, he wanted the City Council to know which two properties he was voting against. He felt they were taking tools away from the local neighbors to have more input into that change.
