Supplemental Information for Outside Compressed Gas Cylinder Storage Permit Application
The structure pictured in Figure 1 is to be relocated to a new foundation located at the corner of Rexburg
US Welding Supply's location (see Figure 2). The 2003 International Building Code (IBC) and the 2003
International Fire Code (IFC) have been reviewed for applicable requirements. A summary follows:
Occu ancX —As long as the aggregate stored does not exceed the quantities specified in the IFC Tables of
Chapter 27, Hazardous Materials — General Provisions, the occupancy does not change to an H Group per
the IBC, i.e., remains the M category that previously occupied the building.
Separation distance - In accordance with the IFC, Section 2703.12, Outdoor control areas, if the outdoor
control area is not closer than 20 feet from a lot line no fire- resistance -rated walls are required. As shown
in Figure 2, the relocated structure will be 20 feet from the property line. Similarly, it will be greater than

Other Requirements — Since the number of cylinders stored will not exceed the quantities specified in the
IFC Table 2703.1.1(3) for an outside control area, only 2701 and 2703 apply (see 2703.1.3). The dock
will only be used for storage. No filling operations will be conducted therefore none of the requirements
for tanks, piping, etc. apply. Cylinders will be of the approved type (2703.2.1). Signage required by
2703.5 will be posted. Sources of ignition will be controlled per 2703.7. The area shall be kept free from
weeds and debris for a minimum of 15 feet (2703.12). Cylinders will either be nested or restrained per
IFC Chapter 30 Compressed Gases. The area will be locked when not attended by authorized personnel
(3003.3.1). The dock includes guard posts to protect against vehicular damage (3003.3.2). The outside
storage is covered to prevent corrosion of cylinders (3003.11). The minimum distance to exposures
exceeds the requirements of Table 3504.2.1 from the IFC Chapter 35 Flammable Gases.

Dear Janell,
Please forward the attached response to the Planning Staff review comments. Based on their comments
we have decided to install only half of the original dock at a different location on the lot. I have also
attached a site plan showing the new location and other pertinent information.
Since the new location is within 20 feet of a buildable lot line we will install a 2 -hour fire- resistance -rated
wall without openings extending 30 inches above and to the sides of the storage area to comply with
section 2703.12.2 of the International Fire Code (IFC).
The above mentioned firewall will allow us to place the dock within 5 feet of the lot line in accordance
with Table 3504.2.1 of the IFC.
All other information on the previously submitted information still applies.

A front yard of 15 -feet is required on comer lots
in the Light Industrial zone. Which yard area is
to be landscaped. Proposal appears to
encroach into this yard. Site plan not to scale.
Clear vision area appears to be violated. Clear
vision areas are applied to comer lots and are
described as, "the triangle of land formed on
any comer lot by drawing a line between points
on the lot lines which are thirty (30) feet from
the intersection of such lot lines shall be free
from any sight obscuring structure or
obstruction except as permitted below." The
permitted items allowed in a dear vision area
are, "Trees in such traingles shall be trimmed
to at least seven (7) feet above the centerline
grades of the intersecting streets. Shrubs,
fences, and walls shal be no higher than three
(3) feet above the centerline grades of the
intersecting streets."
This area of the lot appears to be the only
conforming and feasible area for required
parking. Further encroachment in to this area of
the lot should be accompanied by a description
of how any structure would not eleminate any
off - street parking area.

manuevring?
