RE: Fire Flow Testing for Webb Custom Homes in Rexburg Idaho
Dear Mr. Webb:
We completed the flow testing at the north east comer lot of the Valley Wide Coop Subdivision on
August 2, 2007. We used the three hydrants nearest the lot to measure system static and residual
pressures. Two hydrants were opened for flow metering. Hydrant 1 was the nearest hydrant west of
the lot and Hydrant 2 was just south of the lot. Hydrant 3 was adjacent to the parking lot for the
Evans Hairstyling building.
We measured flows as summarized below-

Maximum measured flow was 1292 gpm for a single hydrant and 1582 gpm with two hydrants open.
Static pressure before testing was 83 psi and dropped to 30 psi with two hydrants open. Using a
modified Hazen Williams equation calculation recommended by the manufacturer of our flow meter,
maximum flow rate from a single hydrant is 2084 gpm at a minimum system pressure of 20psi.
The calculated maxim flow rate at 20 psi system pressure was less than the rate for a single
hydrant. Available flow in a water system can vary widely throughout the day and year based on
system use. Under the instantaneous flow conditions at the precise time the test was conducted, it
was not possible to achieve greater then 2084 gpm and maintain the required minim system
pressure of 20 psi.
