HomeMy WebLinkAboutNewsletter City_June 2011Mayor’s Message:
Memorial Day is gone. Gone too are a great many men and women who
gave their all to sustain our freedoms and way of life. These United
States became a great nation; the USA. It is only fitting that we remember
the fallen ones. I thought of them as we scurried inside to wait out the
storms on Memorial Day. They didn’t get to scurry inside and take shel-
ter from the storms. From the days of Valley Forge to the present, men
and women defend our way of life in the worst of times, and weather.
We live the good life.
We must remember the fallen ones. We need to honor them by protect-
ing our way of life in ways that we can. Such things are often simple. It
never hurts to say thank you to those in uniform. I know that a simple
thank you means a lot. We must educate our youth. They must know and
learn to appreciate what we have. We must educate ourselves as well and
be responsible voters. Now is the time to do so as the posturing begins
with the approach of elections. We can try to protect our youth from the
insidious attacks on family and moral values by speaking out. Write a let-
ter to sponsors of trashy programming. Tell them that you will not
watch it, or be a consumer of their product. I can guarantee you that if
even a few of us across this nation would do this simple thing, program-
ming would change. We must protect our youth, they are the future. We
must teach them of this great nation and why we honor the fallen ones.
